Group Director - Optima
Rob has been a central figure in Optima since 1986 having founded Optima Contracting, along with the now retired Bob Morse. As a Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS), Rob began his career with Wycombe District Council, before progressing to private practice with John Evers and Partners in London.
In 1980 Rob made the move to became a main contractor’s surveyor/project manager for HL Smith Builders (Marlow) Ltd. This company was eventually renamed as Optima as the construction business began to move into specialist partitions and structural glazing.
Whilst working for HL Smith, Rob managed a large number of projects in the Thames Valley area and was personally responsible for the New Court stables shopping centre, which remains a landmark build on Marlow High St. It was this early experience that stood Rob in good stead when taking the reigns of Optima in 1986.
Since then, he has driven Optima to grow from a start-up into a globally recognised brand with a turnover of £50m, employing over 300 members of staff. Over his time in business, Rob has developed integral relationships with many senior individuals in the interior fit out market. This has aided Optima’s outstanding level of repeat business.
However, Optima’s overall success as a leading glass partitioning company over the years can also be attributed to Rob’s total dedication to delivering exceptional quality and to regularly building on an already impressive product range.
It is this strategy that has ensured Optima’s business growth is maintained, not only here in the UK but in the Middle East and Asia markets too.
In addition to his role as Group Director, Rob is heavily involved in the Product Development Steering Team, whose purpose is to develop innovative new products. This dedication to R&D has enabled Optima to have the largest range of acoustically tested partitions in the UK.
Rob remains very hands on and regularly visits all sites to ensure the business’ trademark quality standards are maintained. This strong leadership and close involvement in all commercial aspects of the business enables Optima to remain the preferred company to use when it comes to high performing glazed partitioning solutions.
