Project Manager / Quantity Surveyor

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager / Quantity Surveyor to join the Optima Special Works division.

Optima Special Works Team is dedicated to supporting existing glazed partitioning clients with churn work or maintenance requirements, as well as undertaking new installations regardless of project size.

This role provides a great opportunity for an experience Project Manager to join the team as we expand into the Midlands and outer regions.

As a Project Manager, you will have overall responsibility for managing projects from start to completion. Being accountable for Site managers, working foreman, site engineers and general labour.

Within the role you will be responsible for setting up contract files, producing construction programmes and procurement schedules.

You will need to have experience in producing method statements, COSHH and risk assessments and have adequate knowledge and be able to comply with Health and Safety legislation, along with setting up the health and safety file for each site.


Overall responsibility for managing projects from start to completion. Accountable for Site managers, working foreman, site engineers and general labour.

Other duties include:

  • Agreeing site set up with site manager, surveyor and director.
  • Ensuring drawing registers are produced and maintained.
  • Placing sub-contract orders.
  • Ordering plant and materials.
  • Reporting all significant problems on the project.
  • Agreeing site manager’s duties.
  • Attending regular internal contract review meetings.
  • Reviewing subcontract performance at end of project.
  • Issuing progress reports at every client progress meeting.
  • Producing O & M manuals.


  • Preparing all sub-contract payment schedules for approval and assisting in the preparation of monthly WIP data. 
  • Preparing all sub-contract orders, they must be within limits of tender amounts.
  • Assisting with monthly supervision schedule for accounts.
  • Assisting in obtaining retention releases for projects. 
  • Monitoring invoicing in respect of month on month WIP forecast for projects.
  • Preparing detailed CVRs for projects.
  • Attendance of financial meetings for each project you are involved with and prepare initial CVR and budget constraints data.
  • Preparing valuations.
  • Carrying out audits for QA. 
  • Resolving query invoices from the buying department.
  • Ensuring that the projects in which you are involved have a successful financial outcome.

Regional Account Manager

Account Management of a selected group of accounts exclusively for all areas in and around Birmingham. To form strong relationships with key individuals with a view to establishing contacts for new projects and/or repeat work.


  • The management of a number of key architectural accounts, focussing specifically on new practices or strengthening the relationship with existing practices.
  • The management of a number of key Contractor accounts, focussing specifically on new Contractors or strengthening the relationship with existing Contractors.
  • Development of a list of prospects to be tracked on a daily basis.
  • Provision of a technical advisory role to architects and contractors.
  • Liaison with the entire project team, architect/designer, quantity surveyor, project manager and main contractor(s) from initial lead through to job start.
  • Writing specifications.
  • Preparation of budget quotations where necessary.
  • Preparation of tender and post-tender presentations (written and oral).
  • Liaison with the Estimating Department during the tender period and overseeing preparation of tender presentations.
  • Conducting technical seminars to architectural practices.
  • Compiling a list of relevant press cuttings for leads and following these up.
  • Attendance at all Sales or other meetings as directed.

Junior Designer

  • Location: High Wycombe

To learn and develop the required skills and abilities within the Design discipline so that the following activities are able to be undertaken.


  • Prepare schematic and working drawings, primarily using CAD.
  • Visit sites to ascertain site conditions, carry out surveys and attend design meetings as required.
  • Prepare requests for information, query sheets as required and monitor replies.
  • Produce drawing schedules, general arrangements and working drawings.
  • Monitor own progress against contract programme and report progress on a weekly basis.
  • Attend project handover meetings and compile a design brief for the project.
  • Produce fabrication information in the form of schedules, cutting lists or component drawings as required to an agreed programme.
  • Design review – revise and re-issue commented drawings.
  • Undertake checking responsibilities for fabrication information generated by other design personnel.
  • Represent OCL as appropriate at any meetings as required.
  • Select external designers, structural engineers, consultants where relevant and issue letter of appointment.
  • Take on responsibility for a proportion of the design office workload as agreed.
  • Check all elements to a project including drawing schedules, general arrangement drawings, working drawings and fabrication information.
  • Be aware of current project workload and project timings.
  • Provide design and technical support for all other departments as required.
  • Ensure that the clients are aware of their duties under the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
  • Identify the significant health and safety hazards likely to be associated with the design and how it may be constructed and maintained. Consider the risks from hazards, which may arise as a result of the design being incorporated into the project and, if possible, alter the design to avoid the risk: or if this is not reasonably practicable to reduce it.
  • Provide a design risk assessment to enable the planning supervisor and/or the principal contractor to prepare the relevant documentation required of them by the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
  • Where necessary in the interests of health and safety, cooperate with any other designer involved in any other aspect of the project.
  • Comply with BMS Design Procedures.
  • Any other reasonable duties given to you.

Part of the Optima Group, Optima Installations Ltd is an aluminium framework, glass, and joinery contractor for commercial fit-outs within the UK. Part of the Optima Group, with over 25 years experience of delivering high-quality projects on time and on budget. Our ethos is to provide our clients with exceptional service from the initial design right through to practical completion.

We directly employ in the region of 40 highly skilled operatives, ranging from, Site Managers, Site Supervisors to partition installers & carpenters. We have the skills to undertake projects ranging from £5,000.00 to £10,000,000.00. Our aim is to develop and maintain strong lasting relationships, resulting in repeat business from clients who regularly seek our specialist services.

This vacancy is open to people who can travel and work within and around the M25, the majority of work being in Central London.


To work within a team to deliver the highest quality glazed partitions. Take instructions from the site management team to ensure delivery of projects on time snag free.

To ensure that all company policies and procedures are fully implemented and adhered to on allocated contract sites. This specifically includes but is not limited to Health & Safety and the requirements of the Company Business Management System.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to achieve an NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Interior Systems which will include college attendance of varying blocks (2, 3, and 4 weeks) at the National Construction College.


During the apprenticeship, you will be given a variety of job duties, such as;

  • Reading and understanding plan drawings as to set out location of partitions
  • Reading and understanding detailed drawings as to build what is required
  • Install structures or fixtures, such as aluminium framework, timber framework using carpenters hand or power tools
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment
  • Shape or cut material to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws
  • Measure and mark cutting lines on materials
  • Installing various sizes/specifications of glass to partition system
  • Cleaning, protecting, and maintaining protection to the glass
  • Work towards an apprenticeship framework set out by the appointed college
  • Such other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time
