Optima Systems was engaged by contractors George Sharkey & Sons, working with architects Michael Laird, to deliver an innovative office fit-out for Brodies LLP, one of Scotland’s leading law firms. Located on Glasgow’s Queen Street, the project involved transforming Brodies’ 6th and 7th floor offices into a modern, flexible, and high-performing workspace that embodies the firm’s prestigious image and matches their commitment to excellence.

The project brief required the installation of high-quality glazed partitions and fire-rated systems to create a sophisticated and functional office environment. The main goal was to combine aesthetic appeal with superior performance, providing a ‘home-from-home’, ensuring the safety and comfort of Brodies’ staff.
Making the most of Glasgow city views and maximising natural light were other important, subsidiary goals. This was achieved by maximising the light from the floor to ceiling windows, and retaining clear lines of sight across the floorspace.
Our timelessly elegant Optima 117 Plus single glazed partition system was installed throughout the 6th floor; this provided a seamless and open aesthetic, giving the appearance of vast areas of unsupported glass while ensuring excellent acoustic performance.
To enhance the minimalist design, our Edge Affinity Doors were integrated with Optima 117 Plus glazing, again, providing complementary high acoustic performance with sleek accessibility.
Installed on the 6th floor, our Tech Panels offered flexible options for integrating room booking, and comfort and security technology into the partition systems, enabling advanced functionality.
Up on the 7th floor, we installed the Technishield 65 range of fire rated partitions and doors, offering 60 minutes of integrity and insulation on both sides. This ensures robust fire resistance while meeting stringent safety standards; but without compromising on style.
At Optima we are dedicated to promoting sustainability in every project. For Brodies’ Glasgow office, we factored in sustainability through the careful selection of durable materials and efficient manufacturing processes. Our considered guidance ensured the appropriate fire systems were chosen, aligning with the project’s safety and environmental goals.
To meet the brief on fire safety while staying true to the design’s elegance and functionality required careful collaboration at design stage and considered execution at the installation stage. The expertise of our Fire technical team came in to its own; their assistance was crucial in identifying which of our systems would best achieve technical compliance whilst maintaining the design intent aesthetic. Our design and site teams collaborated closely with the contractor producing technical drawings which not only detailed our own systems, but also incorporated the required surrounding structures so could certify the finished installation.
The installation took place on the 6th and 7th floors, so we had to overcome the logistical challenge of installing heavy glazed panels, and doors at that height with very limited access.
The Brodies Glasgow office project showcases Optima Systems’ capability to deliver high-quality, performance-driven solutions in complex environments. The use of advanced partitioning systems like Optima 117+ and Technishield 65, combined with our expertise in logistics and fire safety, resulted in a modern and safe workplace that meets and exceeds Brodies’ high standards. Brodies expressed their satisfaction with the completed installation, praising the quality and efficiency of the work.
