It’s important to give back to the local community, showing support and pride for where you come from, where you live and where you work. Our employees, we’re pleased to say, are always going above and beyond what you’d expect.

In this post, we hear from Angela Allen, one of our Internal Account Managers based in our manufacturing facility near Bath. Read on to hear about Angela’s contribution to the area around her and why the cause is close to her heart.

Angela’s story

“Every two years, along with two of my friends, Chris and Daniel, I arrange a fundraising ball, which is held in the village of Beckington, Somerset.  This year’s ball took place on 21st September and was a “Greatest Showman” themed event, with champagne reception, dinner, live music, entertainment, raffle and Auction of Promises. Over 360 people attended and tickets sold out within half an hour of release. The ball raised £30,000.

Our sole aim was to support The Forever Friends Appeal, in raising money towards the cost of Bath Royal United Hospital’s pioneering new Cancer Care Centre, which it is believed will be best cancer centre for a district general hospital in the UK. The new cancer centre will be a state-of the-art building, taking a holistic approach, that is designed to produce a highly beneficial healing environment for patients and their families.

My friends and I were inspired at the outset by our mutual friend Terry, who has terminal cancer and spends all of his time tirelessly trying to raise money for the new facility. We wanted to help him in his efforts and since the first Beckington Ball in 2015, have managed to raise in excess of £80,000 for the charity.

We were thrilled with the figure raised at this year’s ball and could not have done it without the generosity of many local businesses who acted as sponsors and contributed raffle and auction prizes to the event, plus the hard work of the volunteers who helped us and overwhelming support received from the people of Beckington and the surrounding area.

At least one in two people today are affected with cancer, we all have our own personal experiences involving family and friends, hence why supporting the charity and doing something positive to help has become so important to us. We really hope the money raised, to assist in providing this much needed new facility, changes lives for the better.“

It’s inspiring to hear how Angela has helped change lives for the better and we hope her story can encourage others to do the same. Well done Angela!
