Optima acknowledge the UK declaration of a climate emergency. As a business, we truly believe we can make a difference and are fully behind our ambition to be operationally Net Zero Carbon by 2030. By taking brave and forward thinking actions we can play our part in delivering a sustainable future.
Through consultation across the Optima Group, we have set ambitious targets of becoming operationally Net Zero Carbon by 2030 based on our direct (scope 1) and indirect (scope 2) emissions, with our factory operations achieving this by 2035. Achieving this target across our business is crucial. Through collaboration and innovation, we will make environmental improvements that will benefit everyone. In committing to our target, we acknowledge that bold actions must be undertaken if we are to contribute to the overall success of meeting the UK’s 2050 NZC goals.
Our NZC Strategy considers the journey we must go on to meet our ambitious goals. Looking to 2030 and beyond we have set strategy reviews every 3 years and developed an action plan covering the first phase. Initially focussing on our operational scope 1 and scope 2 emissions, we intend to include selected scope 3 emissions in our reporting from phase two. We shall minimise energy use through the adoption of energy efficiency and operational changes before considering any form of offsetting and shall follow recognised accounting and reporting standards.
As part of our strategy, we have switched to a number of electric and hybrid vans, helping us to drive down our emissions and achieve our environmental goals. We have also now installed electric charging points at our UK manufacturing facility near Bath.
We are proud to say that we procure 100% REGO-backed renewable electricity for our Head Office in High Wycombe and manufacturing facility near Bath. Therefore, all the electricity we use at these two sites is sourced from solely UK renewable generation sources.
