WD-40’s stunning curved glazed partitions

WD-40 has recently completed an eye-catching fit-out of its new Milton Keynes members office. Our glazed partitions make up a large part of the industrial theme of their newly designed office. Alongside architects, Burtt-Jones & Brewer and main contractor, Collins Construction we provided a fit-out that fully encompassed the WD-40 brand through innovative and rustic design.

Curved glazed partitions create privacy

The Optima Special Works (OSW) team worked to a challenging specification, designing two floors of sleek curved partitions. Incorporating this curved feature within the design presented an initial test for the design team. However, the Project Manager, Martin Shadlow and his team employed their skills and experience to create a stylish, arced glazed partition that met the design requirements and added depth to the space.

The curved glazed partitions encompass an industrial style throughout the office. Optima 117 Plus Shoreditch Edition single glazed partitions, allow for light to naturally flow through the space. In addition, our glass partitions create an open plan feel whilst preserving quiet and private areas in the office.

The slimline aluminium framework is bonded onto the glass partition, thereby retaining both structural stability and high acoustic performance, whilst giving the industrial appearance of cutting through the glass. The use of Georgian wire and reeded manifestation styles offer further privacy throughout the office whilst accentuating the industrial look.

When reflecting on the success of the project, Co-founder of Burtt-Jones & Brewer, Adam Burtt-Jones spoke of how he valued the role we played in the project:

“WD-40 demanded a creative approach to all aspects of the design. With a curved, faceted, glazing elevation surrounding the central, open atrium, against an exact radius. It required great attention to detail to ensure the design looked balanced and proportionate. The Optima system delivered, aesthetically, technically and acoustically. Using the Shoreditch system with pivot and sliding doors, full height glazing to booths, meeting rooms and as spatial dividers, the solution fitted perfectly into the overall concept”.

Dynamic door systems

Equally important, we installed a number of dynamic doors into this impressive fit-out. Edge Symmetry acoustic glass doors were installed in multiple areas throughout the office. Furthermore, this striking door system, with black powder-coated frames works well in the design. Also, by incorporating Shoreditch Edition handles gives a bolder, rustic aesthetic to the door frame.

Moreover, WD-40 required a unique double sliding door system on two of the floors. Whilst this layout was unusual to the design team, they were able to provide Revolution 100 glass partitions with Elite Aero pocket sliding doors. As a result, these doors not only offer a creative solution for the double sliding door requirements, but also provide an impressive acoustic value of up to Rw39dB.

The contemporary Kinetic Aero glass sliding doors were also used to ensure variation throughout the design. The Shoreditch manifestation added to the Kinetic system continues the industrial look of the office, helping to achieve WD-40’s desired vision.
