Glass partitions in Edinburgh Quartermile’s State Street Bank

Quartermile is one of the largest and most comprehensive regeneration schemes in Scotland. To provide our sleek glass partitions in Edinburgh, we worked with main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine and architects Scott Brownrigg for client State Street Bank. In addition, the client loved our Shoreditch Edition bands as a means of visual enhancement for their sleek new offices in this iconic building. However, the site did pose some challenges.

Formerly Edinburgh Royal Infirmary

Formerly the home of the historic Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, this site covers 8-hectares. Located within a conservation area on Edinburgh’s Victorian fringe, consisting of nine listed buildings.

Sleek glazed partitions

Firstly, we conceptualised new construction designs combining the selective refurbishment of the historic buildings. Furthermore, our glass partitions in Edinburgh were carefully woven into the grain of the vintage features of State Street Banks offices. On the other hand, the development also provides housing, office space, a five-star hotel, restaurants, cafés, and shops. However, in the centre you can find quaint offices and shops while the commercial buildings frame a new piazza. In addition, the commercial buildings sit beside three sides shaded by colonnades and animated by exposed glass lifts.

Manifestation for visual privacy

Our client, State Street Bank, chose an edgy modern look for their new offices on several floors of the Quartermile 3 development.  They loved our Shoreditch Edition glazed partitions and sleek Edge Symmetry doors in a microflush frame.  The addition of manifestation applied within the Shoreditch Edition design provided much needed visual privacy for the glazed partition meeting rooms.

Finally, the site posed a challenge when the size of the goods lift was too small to accommodate the glazed partitions.  All the glass was pre-sized and craned externally into position 6 weeks before the start of the project.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the seamless delivery of this part of the project, although not without some sleepless nights!
