A leading global investment company has moved into a new office in central Edinburgh to support its long-term growth. Designed by MLA and delivered by Robertson Construction, the 140,000 sq. ft space offers a modern and flexible workplace that supports different ways of working and helps attract top talent. As part of the full interior refurbishment, the project focused on comfort, energy efficiency and performance. To support these goals, Optima worked closely with the project team to deliver glazed partitioning and doors that enhance privacy, promote sustainability and contribute to a cohesive interior design.

To meet the project’s acoustic brief, the team specified Revolution 100 for enclosed spaces where privacy was paramount. With its wider 100 mm frame and a glass configuration of 12.8mm and 16.8mm acoustic laminated panes, the system achieves up to Rw52dB sound insulation – sound transition levels typically found in recording studios – but with a clean, contemporary finish.
The team selected the Shoreditch Edition for its refined detailing, which complements both the building’s architecture and the wider interior scheme. Offices and meeting rooms now offer quiet, private environments that support focused work and confidentiality.
To further support this, the team installed Elite Affinity doors alongside the system to maintain consistent acoustic performance across all enclosed areas.
The building’s central atrium has been reimagined as a town hall space for company-wide meetings, events and presentations. Designed with flexibility in mind, the space includes integrated AV and can easily adapt to different group sizes and functions.
On the ground floor, the team used fire-rated Technishield 65 glazing to meet 30-minute integrity and insulation requirements. Meanwhile, on the upper levels they also installed non-fire-rated Revolution 100 to maintain visual consistency throughout. By finishing both systems to match, the team created a unified look across the scheme.
Sustainability served as a core priority from the start. MLA worked with Optima to specify Hydro CIRCAL® 75R for the aluminium framing. This low-carbon material contains at least 75% post-consumer recycled content and achieves an embodied carbon footprint of less than 1.9 kg CO₂ per kg. Currently the lowest carbon content of any aluminium partitioning system commercially available.
In addition, the glazed partitioning package included EPDs, BREEAM support and fully demountable systems, which helped the team meet the project’s sustainability targets. The broader redevelopment supports the city’s goals for reuse, accessibility and zero-carbon performance.
Importantly, the building is located within a Conservation Area in Edinburgh’s New Town. By reusing the existing structure and incorporating low and zero carbon technologies, the team aligned the fit-out with the city’s Local Development Plan.
“You have produced a quality install, and any issues have been dealt with promptly. Look forward to the next one.” Ben Allard, Senior Site Manager, Robertson Construction
