We recently completed a fit-out for one of the biggest brands in the UK, spanning a number of sectors; historically dominating markets from aerospace to gyms. Located near one of London’s tallest structures, the iconic Broadgate Tower, Virgin Active’s Broadgate Luxury Health Club is now complete. This stunning fit-out was designed by architects Atelierdb. As a result, the glazing manifestations create a unique space which members can enjoy.

Firstly, Virgin Active looked to re-evaluate their current gym and studio layout. In addition, they wanted to include a new mind-body studio, complete with anti-gravity yoga. Being in a central location requires commercial spaces to constantly adapt and evolve to meet consumer demand. Subsequently, fitness giants opted for modernism in their design. As a result, Atelierdb worked their design around this specification using an on-trend, soft matte colour scheme alongside our state-of-the-art partitions with bespoke glazing manifestations.
This two million pound project was the result of Virgin Active taking a decisive step to completely remodel their existing gym.
The intent was to increase gym floor space by utilising space from larger social areas and an associated cafe. At the same time, Virgin Active wanted to offer their new customers the latest ideas and training programmes.
Consequently. Atelierdb, having a proven record in ergonomic commercial designs, was an unsurprising match with the well-known Virgin Active brand. They have also paired with Virgin Active for several previous refurbishment projects.
So, Atelierdb’s vision for this project was to combine organic ambience with modern functionality. This lent itself to the creation of a naturally calm, encouraging environment that catered for the most demanding athletes. Accordingly, the purpose of this design was to reinforce Virgin Active’s mission statement to create a luxury health club that served as an inner-city escape.
Furthermore, glass partitioning was central to the design; to compartmentalise the club into different areas whilst allowing clear transparency to allow natural light to freely flow throughout the space.
On the other hand, the serenity of natural light can be interrupted as gyms are not always quiet places and studio classes even less so. Therefore, these glass installations had to offer the highest level of acoustic performance. This was vital to ensure Virgin Active’s offering; to provide privacy and relaxation to every one of Virgin Active’s club members.
Furthermore, already having a proven track record of successful projects with Virgin Active, we were chosen to deliver the glass elements and bespoke glazing manifestations. Above all, after considering Atelierdb’s design in detail, we recommended the best products to suit the design.
Throughout Virgin Active Broadgate Health Club you can find Revolution 54 with double glazing manifestations in the studios, flush bonded double glazed doors with Microflush frames and bespoke stainless steel atrium glazing.
These carefully chosen products work cleverly together to maximise space, encourage collaboration and enable effective acoustic sound control.
As a result, our partitions bring a unique and wonderfully personal feel to Virgin Active’s space, whilst retaining an elegant and stylish appearance so as to coordinate the club with its professional and affluent surroundings.
In addition, working directly with the project’s main contractor, Skansen Group, we worked to tight deadlines.
In conclusion, we are extremely proud of all our work with Virgin Active, and this project demonstrates our ability to deliver quality world class health clubs across the UK and beyond.
